Solicitor for the NT

The Solicitor for the Northern Territory (SFNT) provides civil litigation, commercial, Native Title and policy services to government, manages the outsourcing of selected legal services and administers the provision of assistance to victims of crime.

Strategic Legal Services

These services include civil litigation and commercial work. The Aboriginal Land Unit is focused on achieving more certainty in land administration by clarification of the scope of native title rights and interests as well as issues arising under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Cth).

Solicitor-General

The Solicitor-General also provides legal services to the Attorney-General.

Agency Legal Services

Since 1997, most legal services to Government are provided by the private legal profession. The Department of Justice continues to have a role in procuring legal services from the private profession via the Agency Legal Services group.
